Rembrandt’s 'Face of Jesus’ at art museum

PHILADELPHIA — A new exhibit coming to the Philadelphia Museum of Art takes a fresh look at religious paintings, drawings and prints by one of history’s most revered artists.

“Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus” opened this week, after its three-month premiere run at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It’s the only East Coast stop for the exhibit, which continues through October and contains works from public and private collections.

The exhibition of works by the great painter, draftsman, and printmaker of the Dutch Golden Age explores the remarkable change in the artist’s treatment of Jesus.

Including more than 50 paintings, drawings, and prints, the exhibition features major loans such as the Musée du Louvre’s Supper at Emmaus (1648) and reunites a group of oil paintings of Christ that have not been seen together since they left Rembrandt’s home and studio in 1656.

IF YOU GO: “Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus” runs through Oct. 30 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Tickets are $25 for adults; $23 for seniors; $20 for students and ages 13-to-18; $12 for those 5-to-12 years-old; those 4-years-old and younger are free, as are members. Tickets can be obtained by calling 215-235-7469 or online at www.philamuseum.org.
