this quote by one of the leaders of my church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...aka: Mormon) i particularly like.
as a child, teen, young woman, and even a grown adult, i struggled severally with my own self-esteem. seeking validation through others instead of seeing myself as a valued daughter of our Heavenly Father.
it was (and is) hard to be a plus sized person in a world that tries to fit you into a box, youll never squeeze into. its even harder when your own family criticizes you for your weight.
ppl mean good, but it tends to come off (to youth, and ppl who lack self-esteem)often as condemnation, and disapproval. not meeting the demand.
i still struggle, today (at 42) with ppls perception of me due to my weight. i still see ppl whisper, or look at me in places, or even stare.
but now, im armed with a self-RESPECT.
i had too climb the mountain, to claim it. self esteem, is earned...by YOU.
no one can GIVE you your own self-worth!
MICHELLE

The Importance of Self-Esteem
07 Oct 2009
“Self-esteem goes to the very heart of our personal growth and accomplishment.
It is the glue that holds together our self-reliance, our self-control, our self-approval or disapproval and keeps all self-defense mechanisms secure.
It is a protection against excessive self-deception, self-distrust, self-reproach, and plain old-fashioned selfishness.”
James E. Faust, “The Value of Self-Esteem,” CES fireside for young adults, May 6, 2007
