Bristol Zoo launch Wow! Gorillas mobile phone apps and competition
12 August 2011
With Bristol Zoo’s Wow! Gorillas proving popular with Bristol residents and visitors the Zoo have collaborated with local mobile app development companies to launch two free mobile phone apps as well as an online competition, with the aim of helping as many people as possible to enjoy the Wow! Gorillas trail and get involved with the project.Mubaloo has developed an android app for the zoo free of charge, whilst local zoo supporter Jason Trask has come up with an iphone app; both are free to download. The apps allow users to find the sixty gorilla locations on a map and to find out more about each individual sculpture; each app allows users to tick off the gorillas that they’ve seen and upload their photos of the sculptures to a photo sharing server, allowing them to be posted on facebook.
Users of either app who tick off all sixty gorillas will be eligible for one half price voucher to visit the zoo.
A competition launched this week on facebook invites members of the public to upload their best pictures of themselves with the Wow! Gorillas to be in with the chance of winning a fantastic prize. The competition opened on 09 August and runs until 04 September; the competition has been developed by Montage Communications, a Bristol-based social media company.
Entrants need to upload their photo at www.facebook.com/WowGorillas along with a caption explaining why it’s their favourite; they can then share and get their friends to vote for their picture. After 04 September a team of judges including members of Bristol Zoo, Wild at Art and representatives from the prize sponsors will select their favourite photos from the ten that have received the most votes.
The first prize is a Bristol Zoo Package, a range of unique experiences worth £500; the second prize winner will enjoy an overnight stay, dinner, bed and breakfast for two people at the Holiday Inn in Bristol City Centre, including champagne on arrival; the third prize winner will receive a two night stay for two people, including breakfast at the Bristol Marriott Hotel City Centre and the fourth prize winner will receive a £100 gift card to spend at the Mall, Cribbs Causeway.
